ABOUT:
On New Year’s Day, runners from around the region will participate in the Rural Hill 2012 First Footin’ Five Miler, presented by McIntosh Law Firm at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville, NC. The course of 5 miles will wind from Historic Rural Hill up beautiful and secluded Neck Road to Folkston Drive, continue up Pamela Street and back down Edna Drive. At that point Runners will return, traveling back down Neck Road until ending at Historic Rural Hill. This run is all paved and relatively easy, perfect for getting back on track after the holidays. Challenge your body and ease your mind by running one of Mecklenburg County’s most secluded and historic rural roads. The race will start at 11:00am January 1st and will end at Rural Retreat, where the delicious tradition of First Footin’ will continue with homemade soup, fellowship, and revelry unlike any other race in the county!

This event will be held in conjunction with the traditional Scottish Celebration of Hogmany, or First Footin’, a New Year’s Day tradition at Historic Rural Hill. For more information about Rural Hill’s First Footin’ Celebration, visit ruralhill.net/FirstFootin.asp

All race participants will start promptly at 11:00am Awards will be given for the top 3 over all male and female finishers.

2012 FIRST FOOTIN’ FIVE RACE DETAILS

Race Date: January 1st, 11:00am

$25 Until Dec. 15
$30 After Dec. 15

Race Time: 11:00am (please arrive by 10:30 to park and warm-up)

Start/Finish Location: Historic Rural Hill’s 1760’s cabin site.
Once you arrive please pick up your race packet- (race number and t-shirt)

Register by Dec. 15 at the following locations

*T-shirts are only guaranteed to runners that register by Dec. 15. Anyone who registers after Dec. 15 will receive a t-shirt only while supplies last.

Individual awards for race:

  • Top 3 overall male and female finishers.

Results:
Results will be posted immediately after the race on site and uploaded to www.ruralhill.net within 48 hours after the conclusion of the event.

2012 FIRST FOOTIN’ FIVE FAQ & RULES

RULES:
Rural Hill Staffers have the right to remove any runner from the course deemed necessary for their safety and the safety of all others.
All participants and attendees must adhere to the following rules:

  • Numbers must be visible on the outside and front of runners’ clothing.
  • All Runners: It is your responsibility to check in with a Rur al Hill Staffer at the 1760’S CABIN in the event that you feel you need medical attention.
  • Only attempt to pass another runner when it is safe for both you and the other runner to do so.
  • While traffic on Neck Road should be very light, roads will NOT be closed.
  • Watch out for traffic. All vehicles have the right of way.
  • When passing another runner, make every attempt to pass on th eir left, unless it is unsafe. Announce your intention to pass by saying, “passing on your left” (or right, if it is unsafe to pass on their left).
  • No weapons, personal alcohol, glass bottles, smoking, or ille gal drugs are permitted at Historic Rural Hill.
    Violating any of these rules will result in runner disqualification.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Where are bathrooms located?
Bathrooms can be found near the head of our trail, as well as in the white farm house (Rural Hill Offices.) If you don’t see them, just ask a staff member.

What if I cannot participate once I have registered?
All race participant purchases are final. If you cannot participate, the entry fee will not be refunded.

Can I run with headphones?
No, mp3 players and other audio devices are not permitted.

What if I am unable to finish the race?
Any runner dropping out of the race must notify a Rural Hill Staffer at the Start/Finish Line or Cabin.

Will there be a lost and found?
Yes, all lost and found items will be at the Registration area.

Where on the course can my friends/family watch the race?
We recommend having your friends/family watch the race at the Start/Finish Line area.

Can someone else pick up my bib number and race packet?
Race numbers will be given to runners only.

What about parking?
Parking is free and located by entering the 3rd gate

Can I run with my child in a stroller?
Runners with strollers are not permitted in the event due to open roads. No exceptions.

It’s raining outside- are we still racing?
Rural Hill’s First Footin Five Miler will take place rain or shine. In the rare instance the roads are deemed unsafe by the Rural Hill Staff due to severe
weather, we will announce the cancellation immediately via www.ruralhill.net, as well as Rural Hill’s facebook and twitter. In the event of a cancellation the race will postponed to a later date. If you cannot or choose not to participate,
the entry fee will not be refunded.
