THE AMAZING MAIZE MAZE MEDIA WEEKEND OCTOBER 4 - 7  

HUNTERSVILLE, NC:  Calling all members of the press!  You are cordially invited to explore Rural Hill and its Amazing Maize Maze for Media Weekend October 4 – 7, 2007.  Receive up to two adult and two youth admissions with your press credentials.  Take incredible photos and experience all of the fun of Rural Hill – Center of Scottish Heritage.   Please call in advance to arrange your complimentary tickets: Ed McLean, Executive Director, (704) 875-3113 or send an email to office@ruralhill.net. 

The Amazing Maize Maze is seven acres of corn with approximately two and a half miles of “The Land of Liberty” labyrinth.  Explore the paths and solve the clues to make it through the maze all the way to Victory Bridge.  Challenge your problem solving skills while on this historical journey about the Liberty Bell and the Scots and Scots-Irish in the Carolinas. You will have a Maze Captain and a Maze Master to help when needed.  Designed to be navigated in 1-2 hours, there are concessions and water available.

The Amazing Maize Maze is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 AM – 5 PM, through October 21, 2007.  Regular admission is $10.00 per adult and $6.00 per youth ages 5-14.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.ruralhill.net or upon arrival.  For details, please call Rural Hill at (704) 875-3113.  Proceeds go toward the preservation of Rural Hill.

Rural Hill is the former homestead of Major John and Violet Davidson.  The son of Scottish immigrants, John Davidson became was a leader in the Mecklenburg Militia, signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and became a force in the Patriot cause.  Rural Hill is a restoration in progress with 265 acres of magnificent rural vistas, 11 historic and reconstructed buildings, a variety of farm animals, and walking trails throughout the site. 

Rural Hill is located at 4431 Neck Road (off Beatties Ford Road) in Huntersville, 28078.  The former homestead of Major John and Violet Davidson, the 265 acre site is maintained and promoted by The Catawba Valley Scottish Society (CVSS).  Rural Hill features annual events such as The Lock Norman Highland Games, The Amazing Maize Maze, The Spirit of the Hornet’s Nest (battle reenactments) and The Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials.  CVSS is a non-profit organization supported through membership and donations.  For more information on events or for financial support accepted securely online, please visit www.ruralhill.net.
