Areas of Volunteering at Rural Hill:
Volunteering at Rural Hill is a great opportunity to learn about American history and share your talents and creativity, while providing an enjoyable experience and knowledge for visitors. Volunteers play an important role in the success of this historic site. We encourage all ages to volunteer, however, some positions are only allowed for those 16 years and above. Please check with staff for eligibility.
All volunteers will receive an operations manual of Rural Hill and additional information pertaining to their specific position.
For being a volunteer you will receive professional museum training, discounts to the museum gift shop, guest passes, free admission and meal stipends to special events, and our gratitude for your hard work and devotion to helping us preserve this historic landmark.

Costumed Interpreter (Docent)
Job
Description:
Historical Interpreters, re-enactors, and living historians are invited to enhance our programs with costumed interpretation.
Specific time periods and concentration are in Colonial America, the American Revolution, late 1800’s American education (one room schoolhouse); mid 1940-1950’s farm life.

Research on the clothing and people of the time period being portrayed

This is an opportunity learn
and share the history of Rural Hill and the Davidson family with
visitors. Leading tours throughout the farm either by walking or riding on
hayrides will give you a great opportunity to be in the outdoors.

Historical Gardener
Job Description:
Assist with the maintenance of the Davidson family gardens toinclude pruning, fertilizing,watering, marking and maintaining pathways and providing help to our Horticulture Consultant.
Training/Responsibilities:
A passion for gardening.

Farm Hand
Job Description:
Assist the farm manager with various tasks around the farm to include feeding and caring of the animals, mowing grass, cutting and baling hay, mucking the barn and setting up and repairing fencing.
Training/Responsibilities:
On the job training with an understanding that you will be working with farm livestock such as chickens, cows, horses and other related farm animals.
Special Events

Job Description:
Enjoy the opportunity to be a part of our festivals and large funding raising events. Events such as the Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games, the Rural Hill Amazing Maize Maze and the Rural Hill Sheep Dog Trials.
This is a great opportunity to work outside, Scottish games, and Sheep Dog Competitions. Greeters/Ticket Takers, Parking Attendants, Food Service, Gift shop, and Cleanup Crews are needed
